Collaborative painting on a grid

An idea Peter and I had for Live Web is building a collaborative painting online platform in which the canvas is a grid of little squares. Each user that logs in is assigned a spot in the grid to draw on. In order to complete any image there has to be an implicit or explicit agreement between the user and its neighbors. The grid will grow according to the number of people of access the page.
